You are absolutely right, drawing skills are important for all artists, painters and graphics.

You can go for an A2 sized drawing paper. Anything between 200 - 300gsm.

Regarding the pencils you can start with the set of the following pencils: 2H, H, F, B, 2B, 4B.

Brand-wise I would suggest to choose more expensive one. I personally use Staedtler and Koh-I-Noor.
